With only $500 in his pocket and without knowing any English, Ali came to the United States hungry for success. He worked every chance he could at his first job as a pedicab driver, eventually saving enough money to buy his own bike (and a second). A friend rented the second bike from him, and Ali’s idea for a business took off. He slowly grew his fleet to 120 cabs (!) making VIP Outdoor Media the largest pedicab company in the nation. Today, Ali’s team does everything in-house, from building and renting custom cabs to selling and printing the advertising they put on their bikes. His innovative company serves as both a unique form of outdoor marketing for local businesses and a fun way for tourists to get around San Diego. As VIP Outdoor Media looks to expand across the country, Ali continues to dig down and live out what it means to chase the American dream.
